An illrigger prepares and casts spells the way a cleric does, though he cannot lose a prepared spell to spontaneously cast a cure or inflict spell in its place. The Illrigger is quite front loaded offering a ton of class features at 1st and 3rd levels, rivaling or surpassing Hexblade dips on Paladins and Sorcerers.
